To Open Data Science, and Beyond!
What is open data science? To me, open data science is about the responsibility of scientists to share data (or reproducible examples), code, presentations and documentation, among other resources that are accessible and easily reproducible (think GitHub). This practice promotes better science and makes it happen in less time with improved workflows (as an individual and within a group), explicit documentation, and long-lasting transferable code (i.e., tidyverse).
Amazing doesn't even begin to describe the two-day Openscapes workshop I attended in February 2020 at NOAA NEFSC. Hosted by Julie Stewart Lowndes, the workshop focused on promoting open data science and building a community around that concept. You can find out more about Openscapes on their website and by reading my blog post on the Fay Lab's experience towards improving the way we work as open data scientists.
